Casper Ehlert was a Signalman on the USS Arizona and a friend of Lauren Bruner’s. He was also the Arizona’s official artist for its “AT’EM” ships newspaper. Casper was a member of the Arizona’s Boxing Team and represented the ship at boxing matches between ships, which were called “Smokers”.
For the first time ever, Voices of Pearl Harbor has the pleasure of sharing one of only two of Casper’s Original Pieces of Artwork which he drew from the Arizona’s bridge.
This is the only piece of Arizona Crew Artwork known to have survived and it is offered here through the efforts of Casper’s Niece Molly Baumann who remains in contact with Lauren.
It is believed that Casper sent this piece of Arizona Artwork home to his mother and father along with a letter on December 2, only five days before the attack on Pearl Harbor.
